CHESAPEAKE - The 2017 Chesapeake Jubilee will feature three days filled with live music on the Bagley Stage in Chesapeake City Park. All shows are free with paid admission to Jubilee. On Friday, May 19: Chesapeake's own Chris Richardson, American Idol's Season 6 fifth-place finalist, headlines Friday from 9-10 p.m. On Saturday, May 20: Blending Country, Southern and Hard Rock into a genre called "Tractor Metal," Backwoods Company headlines Saturday 7:30-9 p.m. Sunday, May 21: For the first time, Chesapeake Jubilee is presenting a new musical direction on Sunday, May 21 called "Celebrating Faith and Unity Through Music." Opening the show is Bridge Worship that performs from 12:30-1:30. The church musical team is from Bridge Church in Chesapeake.
At Home Store Officially Opens As First
New Retailer In Redeveloped Riverdale HAMPTON - April 28, 2017 - City leaders - and happy shoppers - gathered to celebrate the official opening of the first At Home store on the Peninsula and the sixth in Virginia.
At Home says it stocks more than 50,000 home decor items ranging from furniture, rugs, art and housewares to tabletop, patio and seasonal items.
The warehouse-sized home-goods retailer is the first new store to open as part of a $60 million redevelopment of Riverdale Shopping Center. The shopping center is being redeveloped by Southeastern Development Associates and being renamed Riverpointe.
At 91,000 square feet, At Home will not be the largest store in the shopping center. Construction is slated to begin on a 123,000-square-foot Kroger Marketplace, which will anchor the center.

Friends NEW PORT NEWS - Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism will present the twenty-eighth Newport News Children's Festival of Friends on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Newport News Park. Children can meet their favorite book characters including Curious George, Clifford, and the Berenstain Bears; see animals from the Virginia Living Museum (native Virginian animals), ZooPro (exotic animals), and Gum Tree Farm (farm animals). The youngest festival guests can play in a special “Happy Campers” Pre-school Play Area.

performance about Ella Fitzgerald by Jennifer Gammill (Young Audiences of Virginia) will celebrate the centennial of the “First Lady of Song” who was born in Newport News on April 25, 1917.
Norfolk Hosts International Conference on
Resilience NORFOLK - The City of Norfolk created one of the world's first resilience strategies. Its leadership as a living laboratory for building resilience is the reason why NATO chose Norfolk to host its first ever Interdependency in Resilience Conference this week at The Main, Norfolk's newest hotel and conference center.
Representatives from 34 nations and 30 private sector agencies will gather for the first time to attend the two day conference. The group will develop a resilience blueprint that improves the understanding of how military, business and civil sectors are dependent on each other and must work together to reduce risk and increase readiness.
Annual Festival Brings African Culture to
Portsmouth PORTSMOUTH - The City of Portsmouth is proud to host the 27th Annual Umoja Festival at the Portsmouth Pavilion and Festival Park Memorial Day weekend, May 26 – 28. The free festival will kick off Friday evening with a drum call and ceremonial procession. Afterwards, as dictated by African tradition, the event will be blessed by elder members of the Portsmouth community. Starting at 6:15 pm on Friday, music will fill the night air featuring Stan Howard and the Tidewater Drive Band.

Season SUFFOLK - The Suffolk Farmers’ Market season opens on Saturday, May 6, 2017, in the Suffolk Visitor Center Pavilion at 524 North Main Street. The weekly market is enjoyed by locals and visitors searching for fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables, baked goods, meats and eggs, jellies, jams, honey, pickles and handmade crafts and even dog treats. The Market is conveniently situated at the corner of Constance Road and North Main Street directly behind the Suffolk Visitor Center. From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., Market goers can enjoy a variety of homegrown and handmade goods and the Teeny Tiny Farm Petting Zoo. The Suffolk Public Library and Suffolk Art League will engage children with crafts and other creative activities. DJ Angie will be spinning tunes and taking music requests throughout the day. Bring your camera for a photo opportunity with Virginia Tourism Corporation’s giant LOVE letters that will reside at the Suffolk Visitor Center, May 4th through 16th. As with all market activities, admission is free and open to the public.

Elections VIRGINIA BEACH - Democratic Party Primary | Republican Party Primary - Deadline to Register to Vote is May 22. Primary Elections will be held for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and the House of Delegates 21st District for the Democratic and Republican parties. There will also be a Primary Election for the House of Delegates 81st District and 83rd District for the Democratic Party only. Virginia law only allows you to vote in one of the party primary elections. You must indicate in which party primary you would like to vote on Election Day or when you request an absentee ballot in- person or by mail.
There are six different ballot styles in Virginia Beach for the party primary elections. Ballot styles are determined by your voting precinct. For specific information including sample ballots and polling locations, please visit www.

The Constitution of Virginia requires that voters be registered to vote in the precinct in which they live in order to be qualified to vote.
To be eligible to vote in either of the Party Primary Elections held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, residents must register to vote or submit any change of address no later than close of business on Monday, May 22, 2017. Mailed voter registration applications must be postmarked on or before Monday, May 22, 2017.
In-Person Voter Registration is available at the Voter Registration & Elections office, all Virginia Beach Public Library locations, and Virginia Beach Department of Motor Vehicles Offices (in conjunction with DMV transactions) during normal hours of operation.
