Co-option FleurWillsonwas co-opted to fill the vacancy on the parish council. Police maers Cllr Doewas pleased to inform members that no further incidences of dog thefts had been reported, but reminded residents to be vigilant. Bull Orchard Cllr Manser had looked at various plant tubs at a local garden centre which cost about £35 to £50. The clerkwas asked to contact the company which supplied the recycled bench to enquire about suitable containers. Annual meeting Itwas agreed to order sandwich plaers from Marks & Spencer. Barming Youth Club The clerk had contacted a removal company regarding the old sofas that need to be disposed of from the pavilion. Members felt that the cost to remove the sofas, which had been left by the youth club,was too high and asked the clerk to contact the council. If Maidstone Borough Council could not remove them at a reasonable price, it was felt that the youth club should arrange removal at their own cost. Cllr Manser said that where furniture had been moved around the pavilion, paint had chipped off the walls in several places.A repaint would be necessary in the near future. Councillor’s reports Cllr James reported that while locking the parish field gate, she noticed there were now tracks across the grass andwanted anyone driving up to the pavilion to be reminded to drive near to the path, ensuring that the grass does not get ruined. Cllr Manser reiterated that people should only be driving up the field if it is completely necessary, ie if a hirer has a large amount of heavy equipment. She
SOMEONE tried to break into a house in Cliveden Close, Allington, but no access was gained. A vehicle parked in the road inWarwick
Placewas broken into. A Gemini TT motor boatwas stolen from
its moorings on the river near St Peter’s Street. A vehicle parked in St Peter’s Street was
taken without consent. An unsecured Renault Traffic van parked outside shops in Buckland Hill was entered and a Samsung mobile phone and tablet were stolen. Two menwere seen taking the items from the van. A cyclewas taken from a communal secured bike shed in HubertWalter Drive. Parts were removed from a vehicle parked at a house in Victoria Street. In Bower Street, someone smashed a
cellar cover but it was unclear whether this was an aempted break-in or deliberate damage. A VWTiguan parked in Bower Place was scratched and the bonnet was dented. A shedwas broken into in Hartnup
Street. Two rear wheel trimswere taken from a
Fiat 500 in the car park at the cinema in Barker Road. A distinctive black pedal cyclewas stolen
from The Broadway. The bike had “46 the doctor” paint decals. A property in Douglas Roadwas broken
into while the residentswere asleep and an Ipad, handbag and contents, Xbox console and accessorieswere stolen. A Carrera cycle with special child seat
had received complaints about residents using the parish hall car park, which had impacted on hirers being able to park their vehicles. Cllr Doe would liaise with residents and politely remind them to check the diary, which is posted on the noticeboard at the village hall. Rubbish The clerk had received a complaint about rubbish by one of the recently replaced bus shelters along the Tonbridge Road, although this areawas not covered by Barming Parish Council. The chairman would speak to the relevant people at Maidstone Borough Council to try and resolve the issue for the lady. AwardAt the annual parish meeting a framed certificatewas presented to Peter Gooch, winner of the Kent Association of Local Councils’ CommunityAward for his continued support to the parish council, from seing up the Speedwatch initiative to helping with the remembrance service arrangements and lier picking at no extra cost to the parish council.

Community warden Liz Lova continued to carry out herwelfare visits to vulnerable people in the parish, and keeping in touch with social services, NHS and the police. She emphasised that people should be aware of doorstep selling and the potential problems associated with this. Police report Smoking of cannabis at the King George V playing fieldwas reported but was not on CCTV. However, the police had been informed. Youths had been throwing objects at cars from Valley Drive footpath. Members asked if they would get an update from the PCSO if interviews
with youths’ parentswere carried out. Brooks Field An email had been received from the pond working party that about 66 man hours had been spent clearing reeds etc from the pond and trough. The deputy clerk had passed on thanks on behalf of the parish council. Neighbourhood plan Workwas still underway on the six-week consultation whichwas being carried out by a focus group. Therewere many responses to various items/policies in the questionnaires. The groupwas about three quarters of theway through the draft document and what had been analysed so far had been passed on to Feria to start work on. Social media andwebsite Thewebsitewas described as very professional. Itwas suggested to employ a freelance graphic designer to do posters etc and to offer a different format for Facebook and eventually Twier. This would give the parish council an opportunity to change the design. The logo could stay the same but in a different format. This would then represent the parish beer and be more sophisticated. Plaque The missing plaque on the viaduct had been erected in 1980 to mark its 150th anniversary. Cllr Jim Andrew had contacted the Civil Engineers’ Society and found it was erected by the parish council. Trees Itwas agreed to take part in the 2017 Kent Men of the Trees village competition. Planning The non-availability of paper plans for Maidstone Borough Council planning applications would be a problem as broadband had not been installed at the parish pavilion.
