INDUSTRY NEWS New sections at Elmia Wood T

he organisers of Elmia Wood, which takes place in Jönköping, Sweden, from 7-10 June, have confirmed that it will be the world’s biggest forestry fair ever. “By January we’d already sold more stand space than at the previous Elmia Wood in 2013,” said Exhibition Manager Jakob Hirsmark.

Elmia Wood has been the world’s leading forestry fair for many years. Decision-makers from around the world visit the show to experience the latest technol- ogy in use and this time, it will be bigger and broader than ever.

Three new sections will welcome visitors. The big- gest of these is Load & Transport with its theme of forest roads, logistics and timber handling. Big-name exhibitors planning major programmes in this section include MAN, Liebherr, Volvo and Tatra. “It’s unusual to have such a strong and immediate response for a new section,” remarked Hirsmark.

Another new section is the Drone Zone. As the name suggests, the theme is drones. Elmia is co- operating with UAS Forum, which organises the Nor- dic region’s leading conference on unmanned aerial

vehicles. The exhibitors are leading suppliers of aerial products and services. Several times each day, there will be aerial shows, demonstrations and talks. Hunting is the third new section. Wildlife manage- ment is part of active forest management and this section brings together exhibitors, target practice ranges, food made from game and other activities. Forestry decision-makers will be able to gain high- quality knowledge from the programme of seminars in the Event Tent. The seminars planned so far are entitled: Invasive Species, Precision Forestry, Careful Logging, Remote Sensing and Technological Leaps for Future Forestry. The German Forestry Council is also holding daily discussion forums for the German- speaking public. “We recommend a couple of days at the fair so you can have time to discover everything that’s happening in the forest industry,” advised Hirsmark.

Elmia Wood in 2013 was supported by over 500 exhibitors and attracted 50,000 visitors from around the world.

Forestry on show in Hannover

The five-day LIGNA event, the world’s leading trade fair for machinery, plant and tools for the woodworking and timber processing industries, will open on 22 May with a number of exciting new features. The open-air site in Hannover will be arranged in various ‘theme avenues’ dedicated to key aspects of the wood production chain and will also feature a central demonstration site, together with an activity zone in front of Pavilion 33, which will feature a ‘Forestry Technology Trends Showcase’.

The theme avenues will be located to the North and South of the demonstration site and will cover five main topics: mobile sawmills; logistics and transport; large-scale forestry machinery plus forestry tools and energy from wood; and firewood

On each day of LIGNA, the demonstration area will feature live demos of all kinds of machinery, both large and small. The demonstrations of each item’s technical highlights and associated operating methods will be moderated by the German Forestry Council (KFW) in partnership with the manufacturers. Spectator areas will be set up around and within the demonstration site, so visitors will have a clear view of each day’s live demonstrations. This is the eighth time that the KFW has co- operated with Deutsche Messe to stage special presentations of forestry technology on the open-air site and in the pavilions beneath the EXPO canopy.
