Louisa Leontiades
Author and Abuse Survivor. A wordsmith warrior sharing her journeys from abuse
We would like to introduce you to Louisa Leontiades. She is an amazing author, born in the United Kingdom, and now lives in Sweden. Louisa is a contributor to Huffington Post, Salon, Nerve, Jezebel and the Guardian.
She is also the author of the controversial memoir, The Husband Swap. I was absolutely delighted when she agreed to do an interview! Why do I call her amazing? Because she was adopted, raised by a Narcissistic mother and later found herself in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend. So many women can relate to her story, after being raised in abusive families, it is no wonder we find ourselves in abusive relationships.
Louisa, what is “Some Never Awaken” about?
Some Never Awaken is a memoir of discovery, as all my books are (four and a half so far, if you count the manuscript sitting with the editor at the moment). This one is about how I discovered I was in an abusive relationship even though I never thought it would happen to me. I guess that was part of why I stayed… but only a part.
"That your boyfriend is an abusive man—such an awful accusation, you have to have an awful amount of courage to make it. You have to be sure. Except that when you’re abused, you aren’t sure of anything any more. Louisa is in an abusive relationship—but she doesn’t realise it yet. On an idyllic holiday in Barbados, her suppressed and secret past catches up with her. She falls in love with another man, and her world comes crashing down around her. The resulting pain, always before anaesthetised with alcohol, shows her a reality that can no longer be ignored."
