interior, which is basic, build the mast and spars, and have the sails made. They hope to have her over in August.

Under the bow of the Friendship are two tenders. One tender, Richard built in 1983, and she was in after being damaged in a mooring accident. Richard said that he had to take her apart and replace some broken frames and then repaint.

The other tender was built by B. Farn- sworth, whose shop was on the other side of the island. She is a Spurling design and was in for her regular maintenance. The fi rst storage boat launch happened on 14 May and the rest will go over in the next few weeks.

of repowers for local lobster fi shermen and more still to do. A Calvin 38 was in to be repowered with a Cummins QSL 9. They also repaired the platform and did some cosmetic repairs to the hauling side. A RP 35 was in for a new platform hatch

and rails.

Just left was JENNIE & MICHAEL II, a 32-footer built by Robert Rich of Bernard. She was in to have her hauling side redone. There are a number of storage custom- ers in the yard and sheds all getting ready to go overboard in the next several weeks.

At Bass Harbor Boat in Bernard they

were fi nishing up the major winter projects and turning their attention to their storage customers.

The 30-foot cruiser GRACIE, built by Robert Rich in 1961, came in for a new shelter, windshield and cabin sides. They also replaced hand rails, electric lighting, and added a door. ADEQUATE, a Bunker & Ellis 36, came in for regular maintenance. ANDROMEDA, built by Ron Rich of Southwest Harbor, was in annual mainte- nance.

In the back of the shop was a 12-foot tender built by Richard Stanley, which had been given a cosmetic upgrade. They had stripped her, cut in the seams, and painted her.

Richard Stanley, Boatuilder at Bass

Harbor, is continuing work on the 40- foot Friendship sloop, which was built by Charles Morse in 1902. This year he put in the ceiling, fuel tanks, and attempted to put in the engine. The engine had some age to her, and they tried to get her to work, but could not, and now they are looking for another one. Next they will work on the

ter-by-the-Sea, MA, they have been working feverishly getting boats ready for the water. The yards on the North Shore of Massachu- setts had a lot of snow and it stayed well into March, which is very unusual, and this has caused them some delay.

During the winter they had some in- teresting projects. A major project was on a 39-foot Concordia, which had her keelson replaced. Over the years this boat has had extensive work, which has included replac- ing 80 frames, replace the cockpit and teak decks and rewire. She will be done and in the water this summer.

Another interesting project was on a wooden Chris Craft from the 1940s or ‘50s.

She came in for a new bottom, which also included replacing frames and fl oors as needed. The transom was also redone, and then her brightwork was refi nished. Another Concordia, but a motorsailer, was in and had her shaft-log replaced. In early May they put over a Holland 38, which had her cockpit replaced. They also installed a Soundown Silencer to lessen the engine noise. A 43-foot sailboat was in and had her shaft log repaired. They also did her annual maintenance before she heads off to the Mediterranean.

Now the focus is on the storage custom- ers and getting them ready for the upcoming season.
