Sonoma County. Two hundred species of birds are found in the Laguna, which is also an important stopover for thou- sands of birds migrating along the Pacific Flyway. Terrestrial and aquatic species include river

otter, bobcat, coyote,

mink, badger, and two feder- ally listed endangered species, the coho salmon and steelhead trout. The Laguna watershed is one of the few places in the world where vernal pools are found. It provides critical eco- system services by capturing and slowing of storm waters during flood events. Founded in 1989, the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation's mission is to preserve, restore and enhance the Laguna de Santa Rosa, and to inspire greater public understanding and appreciation of this mag- nificent natural area.
