to HB 2358 were adopted into the final bill that was passed by the Legislature, and we expect to work on additional amendments during the 2013 legislative session. By the time the Legislature had adjourned in April, U.S. DOT had declined to authorize tolling on I-15. ADOT subsequently won federal funding to begin rebuilding the most deficient of the bridges, at Milepost 15.58 approximately seven miles east of Beaver Dam and Littlefield. But the total cost to rebuild and repave I-15 through Arizona is estimated to be $250 million, leaving a looming gap between available funding and the need to rebuild this critical interstate truck route. ATA’s insistence on consumer

protections will provide balance to the debate as other toll road proposals work their way through the public process. These include SR 189 at the Nogales border crossing, a new connector from I-10 at Picacho Peak running north to U.S. 60 near Apache Junction, portions of the newly designated Interstate 11 that would connect Phoenix and Las Vegas, and HOT lanes (high-occupancy toll lanes) on Valley freeways.

75TH ANNIVERSARY ARIZONA TRUCK DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS -

APRIL 21, 2012 With the exception of the 103-degree

heat (!), everything went smoothly and the 75th Anniversary Truck Driving competition finished ahead of schedule. A total of 146 drivers competed this year, along with 14 “newbies” in Arizona’s first-ever SuperTech Competition. Although slightly down from 2011, the crowd of spectators nevertheless topped 700 this year. Safeway Inc. again donated and

cooked a great lunch for attendees and volunteers. Safeway’s donation and the sale of lunch tickets help offset ATA’s costs to put on such a huge event. Our PA Announcer, Rich Bren (Contractor Management Services), did such a great job of introducing the competing drivers, making announcements and even “interviewing” Board members and other attendees that he’s been asked for an encore in 2013. And how about the other 151 volunteers, including 33 DPS Commercial Vehicle Officers who signed up as judges. In addition, ATA collected 236 pounds
