Bangor is a long-established university (founded in 1884) and dedicated to academic excellence. The University comprises over 10,000 students, 23 academic Schools and over 650 teaching staff.


The last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008) confirmed Bangor’s status as a research-led university with an international perspective, having identified world-leading research in all of its 19 assessed subject areas, with nearly 50% given the top grading of 3* and 4*.


In recent years Bangor University has risen substantially in the Times Higher Education World University rankings, and is now placed among the world’s top 275 universities. The breadth of our expertise is indicated by the range of over 150 courses offered at postgraduate level, in areas spanning the Arts, Business and Humanities, and many distinct branches of Science.


Bangor is rated top in Wales and in the top 15 UK universities for teaching excellence according to the Sunday Times University Guide 2012.


In recent years a £20m redevelopment of the campus


has taken place, including a £10m business and management centre and the award-winning Environment Centre Wales building, undertaken in partnership with the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. Work has also begun on a £40m Arts and Innovation Centre, due for completion in 2014.


The University has close links with the NHS in Wales, and is a major provider of training and education


for the NHS and one of the main partners in the North Wales Clinical School. As a major provider of teacher training in Wales, the University has forged close links with schools, local education authorities and the teaching profession.


Bangor also has one of the largest Peer Guiding schemes in the UK, and highly-rated Student Support Services.
