Croft affi rmed there were synergies. “I have a sense that people are getting more mature about information security”, he observed. Croft added his view on the biggest challenge security professionals face: “Awareness is a big problem…there is an enormous gulf between what the professional information security people know, and what the general public knows. How we bridge that gap has to come down to good education.”

Giving Back to the Community Gerry O’Neil of Inforisca stopped by our booth to tell me more about how the White Hat group is giving back to help aid children. O’Neil also wears a second hat (pardon the pun) as events committee chair for the organization, and he was proud to share that White Hat had presented a check
at Infosecurity Europe for a record amount to the UK-based charity ChildLine. The White Hat organization raised more than £185,000 for the charity, and O’Neil was delighted to be the messenger. The White Hat group raised the funds through a number of events – many of them record- breaking hauls – with nearly all of the funds coming from members of the security industry. Kudos to you Gerry, to the White Hat group, and to all of those in the industry who gave selfl essly to this worthy cause.
