Taconic Opera--In April, Taconic Opera presented the US premiere of the 19th century opera, Dona Flor, by Niccolo Van Westhout, a contemporary of Puccini. The company was chosen by the Circolo Culturale Mola, an organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the work of the composer, and the Italian government to mount an original production that was recorded for broadcast throughout Italy.


Yonkers Philharmonic--Violinist Christine Kwak who performed as a soloist at the Yonkers Philhar- monic Orchestra summer concert at the Untermyer Performing Arts Center in Yonkers.


Hudson Valley Writers' Center--Attending the reception for The Hudson Valley Writers' Center 20th ANNIVERSARY Gala, "Havana-on-Hudson," held at the Writers' Center's Philipse Manor train station on Oct. 2. Westchester Philharmonic--Artistic Director Itzhak Perlman and his daughter/guest pianist Navah Perlman are pictured with guest cellist Zuill Bailey. The two performed as a trio, along with violinist Giora Schmidt, at the orchestra’s May 15 and 16 concerts at the Performing Arts Center con- ducted by Itzhak Perlman. The New Rochelle Council on the Arts--NRCA presented the first Sound Shore Shakespeare Festival in April and May; one of the standout events was “Odes to the Bard,” an afternoon of sonnets read by New Ro- chelle Mayor Noam Bramson and actress Frances Sternhagen on April 18. The free event featured a reception of “Shakespearean Sweets” prepared by City Historian Barbara Davis.

Westchester Jazz Orchestra opened their 2010-11 season with a tribute to the multi-Grammy-winning saxophone giant Michael Brecker, who passed away in 2007. Michael's brother Randy Brecker, a legendary musician and multi-Grammy winner himself, joined WJO to celebrate Michael's spectacu- lar musical legacy. Historic Hudson Valley recently honored Elinor and Charles Urstadt with the 2010 John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Founder’s Award. Mark Rockefeller, chairman of the executive committee of Historic Hudson Valley’s Board of Trustees, presented the award at a gala dinner dance at the St. Regis in New York City on Nov. 17.
