UKULELE HEAVY- WEIGHTS
Just a month after Norwich celebrated its first Ukulele Festival, amid a powerful wave of appreciation for the diminutive instrument, the heavyweight of the category are coming to town. The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain have accumulated music fans of all types, and consist of a group of all- singing, all-strumming Ukulele players (the clue is in the name), using instruments bought with loose change, which holds that all genres of music are available for reinterpretation, as long as they are played on the Ukulele. A concert by the Ukulele Orchestra is a funny, virtuosic, twanging, awesome, foot- stomping obituary of rock-n-roll and melodious light entertainment featuring only the "bonsai guitar" and a menagerie of voices in a collision of post-punk performance and toe-tapping oldies. No stage has been too grand for them to make their mark on, and they count a performance at the Proms and a memorable rendition of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ on Jools Holland’s 2004 Hootenanny amongst their crowning moment. Straight off the back of a European tour, they come to Norwich Theatre Royal on Monday 5th December. For tickets and more info, go to

SOMETHING REMARK- ABLE…
We at Outline are constantly trying to make you aware of the talent that’s brimming over from this city. From the musical exploits to the city’s prolific art reputation, the UEA’s literary alumni, Norwich’s famous sons (Stephen Fry) and daughters (good ol’ Delia), but there’s one talent that needs to be brought to light more! Mr Remarkable Man is a product of these parts, and it’s time you showed some love! The electrifying character has sparkled on Britain’s Got (More) Talent and has wowed the region with his special skill – blowing up hot water bottles. Complete with neckerchief and jaunty facial hair sculpting, the whole act is delightfully, and surprisingly engaging. There’s a serious side to it too though; a constant flag-waver for charity concerns, Mr Remarkable Man attempts a world record attempt at The Mall from December 2-4th, aiming to do a 48hr, non-stop squat lift. Absolute madness, but all raising awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support, so show your support to our local treasure.
LIBRARY
If you’ve just survived October and yet another Half Term holiday with your kids / nieces / nephews / younger siblings or other small people in your life, whilst not having a clue what to do with them, next time, remember your local library. Each of Norfolk’s libraries holds groups and activities ideal for the mini-me in your life, from regular story time, to Baby Bounce and Rhyme Time groups – which dispel the myth that libraries are silent tombs by learning through song – and visits from childrens’ authors. Last month, the Millennium Library played host to The Gruffalo itself, so you never know who might be popping down! OK, children’s laureate and Gruffalo author, Julia Donaldson came down too, but you must know which one got us excited! For details of all the libraries’ events around the region, go to

A GOOD YEAR FOR BEER
Norwich breweries have been putting the area on the map recently, with announcements of awards coming from all over the industry. One such prize winner is the Fat Cat Brewery Tap. In a county that boasts nearly 40 breweries, it is something of an achievement to have one of your beers be voted as best in its class – so, for the Fat Cat Brewery, to win 3 such awards in the same year is little short of outstanding! Fat Cat Bitter & Fat Cat Porter were winners in the categories in which their names suggest they would be found, whilst Cougar was the champion strong bitter of Norfolk (a doubly-honoured brew, since it won the same category at the Norwich Beer Festival). Colin Keatley's brewery team of Mark Winter – Head Brewer & second-generation award-winner (following in father, Dave Winter's footsteps) – and Brewery Manager Chris Riches are rightly proud of their achievements. The advice of Consultant Brewer Ray Ashworth - whose wisdom and experience have proved invaluable – is acknowledged by all concerned, as he has guided the Fat Cat enterprise since brewing began, in 2005.
