BY AUDREY RUSSO, PRESIDENT AND CEO,
PITTSBURGH TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE DEAR MEMBERS:
The past year has been exhilarating here at the Pittsburgh Technology Council as we have grown our membership and launched several new products/services to our constituents. Through our dedication to innovation in regards to our four core service platforms – Business Development, Talent, Government Relations/Advocacy and Visibility – as well as our corporate insurance offerings, we have sought out new partners and introduced new products to keep pace with the needs of Pittsburgh’s technology community. We have heard calls for increased access to capital and international business building opportunities, cohesion in the region’s rapidly growing entertainment technology industry, and a greater number of corporate insurance options.
Here is a little more detail on these new service offerings: In May 2011, we led a business mission to China that garnered
participation and involvement from more than a dozen member companies. Our travels took us to two of China’s largest cities – Shanghai and Beijing – where we connected with representa- tives from an array of multinational corporations and learned more about the world’s fastest-growing economy. Not only was it an important trip in terms of business perspective, we are now carving out a more pragmatic plan to ensure we leverage our existing relationships by parlaying them into opportunities for the region’s tech ecosystem. We are looking forward to providing future international business building opportunities for our membership.
Three years of experimentation and collaboration at the intersection of art and technology came to fruition recently as the Pittsburgh Technology Council founded its newest industry network, the Creative Technology Network. Focused on design, gaming, robotics, new media advertising, industrial design, architecture, animation, production and digital media,
the
Creative Technology Network unites many of the most innovative companies in the region and promotes cross-industry partner- ships through targeted networking events and introductions to top companies in the entertainment industry.
Earlier this year, the Council announced the formation of Venture In, a new programming series aimed at strengthening relations between Pittsburgh’s entrepreneurial community and the nation’s leading venture capital organizations. We are excited about the potential of Venture In and plan on bringing top investors to Pittsburgh in the coming year.
Every growing business needs competitive and comprehensive insurance offerings to stay on the path to long-term success. In our continuing effort
to provide unrivaled service to our
membership, the Council partnered with the HDH Group to form the PTC Corporate Coverage Group. Under the Group, the Council will continue to deliver competitive medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance options to its members, while also offering new corporate insurance products and services. Detailed information about the new PTC Corporate Coverage Group and its offerings can be found on Pages 18, 20 and 22.
This year’s Pittsburgh Technology & Business Index is utterly packed with valuable resources and information to help your business succeed. More than 1,340 companies are listed in the publication and various other resources aimed at Pittsburgh’s technology community are provided as well. Please take advantage of this information and feel free to reach out anyone on my staff with questions or suggestions.
