glazed in replaceable panels of reinforced
PVC. The fact that the ends of the enclosure
lift to form a canopy adds significantly to
the appeal of the Compax, as it provides
unrestricted access and superb ventilation
on a warm day. The structure is remarkably
robust, and we have examples from 1978
still in use. It is still recognised as a practical
and attractive fixed pool enclosure at a
competitive price.
“We have introduced the L’Abrimobile
range of folding enclosures to the UK
market. Pool Enclosures Unlimited are UK
agents for this, a retractable enclosure that
has great customer appeal.”
There are three models of Abrimobile
folding enclosure: the Buffalo – a low-
level pool cover; the Amazone – a full-
height pool enclosure spanning up to
10m in width and the Amazone Grande –
a commercial model that spans up to
15m. When extending the enclosure
back over the pool, the folding system
locks back down in place, holding the
main structure rigid and tensioning the
flexible glazing material. Folded off the
pool, most Amazone and Buffalo
enclosures take up only between 50 and
100 cm of poolside area.
The installation of a pool enclosure can
transform an outdoor pool, protecting
users from the elements and also
reducing costs spent on heating and
cleaning. It can also be used to make the
area safer, and there are a number of
different options available, from
retractable telescopic designs to more
solid, permanent structures.
There are various products that can be
installed to transform an outdoor pool
into an indoor one. One of the most
obvious advantages of a telescopic
enclosure structure is its potential to
extend the swimming season from a few
brief months in summer to an all year
round experience. “A pool enclosure is
there to minimise heat loss through
evaporation and the cooling effects of the
wind and also to promote heat absorption
from any sun we may have,” explains
Jonathan Howkins of specialist supplier,
Splash! “The effect of both of these is to
maintain a higher water temperature in
the pool, and therefore reduce the
amount of additional heating needed.
With a pool enclosure, you can still swim
in the rain, wind or even snow! The air
