Jamaican Baptists to Review their APPROACH TO MISSION
aptists in Jamaica renewed their historical commitment to mission during a mission conference held in the city of Montego Bay in October 2015. The process of renewal will include reviewing “the relationship between
the Jamaica Baptist Union Mission Agency and the Jamaica Baptist Union” so that the former will have “greater operational independence from the latter.” “Mission must be pursued with urgency,” they asserted. “The church is not the
church without engagement in mission and the church is only the church when she practices mission.” In this singular pursuit, “we will practice mission without yielding” to racial, geographical, cultural, theological, gender or other barriers. “We are developing a more thoroughgoing mission mindset in all our engagements instead of just seeing ourselves as engaging in isolated mission projects,” the Jamaicans announced through the Montego Bay Declaration. Every church affiliated with the Jamaica Baptist Union will have mission coordinators, “so as to ensure the development of a network of mission support which includes all the churches,” the Jamaicans decided.
