32 8 8 4 Leader Greg Blackman The show goes on

he last year has been a successful one for the machine vision industry, with strong quarterly growth figures posted from the AIA, EMVA

and VDMA. Tere was no Vision Stuttgart in 2013, but the event returns this year, and promises to be even bigger than 2012 according to early indications from the show organiser Messe Stuttgart. Te switch to a biennial cycle is evidence, according to some commentators, of a maturing machine vision market with longer product innovation cycles, and it will be interesting to see how this year’s show compares now that it is every two years. Te article on page 8 looks at the wider issue

of where best to exhibit when marketing a vision product. Tis, the second edition of the Vision Yearbook, also has viewpoints from industry experts looking at the year ahead (page 12), and the latest updates in machine vision standards (page 26). Tere is also a guide to getting the most out of the European Commission’s new funding cycle, which runs from 2014 to 2020. James Cogan at PNO Consultants sets out the key EC finance projects for machine vision organisations on page 4. Te views on page 12 from those most heavily

involved in the industry suggest that machine vision technologies are proliferating into ever wider areas of application. Tis coupled with a growing need for automation and quality assurance puts machine vision in a strong position for the years ahead.
