“We have added some exciting new products to our range of stock springs, offering customers an even greater variety of springs to meet their specific needs” says Chris Petts, Managing Director of Lee Spring UK.

New LHP, High Pressure Compression Springs Previously when customers required high spring rates, springs that are stiffer and harder to compress, they could only have been found in the largest stock compression spring sizes or in custom spring designs. However, the new High Pressure Compression Springs offer very high spring rates in a more slender spring design. The Lee Spring engineering team has designed an offering of 144 slender parts packed with high load capacities, rated to pressures of 300, 400, and 500 psi. High Pressure Series Compression Springs in 17-7PH Stainless Steel are passivated, shotpeened, and preset, to provide a balance of corrosion resistance, high strength, and toughness.

This new line of High Pressure Compression Springs is suitable for applications with small spaces requiring firm, but not rigid, slender springs. They are used in a variety of applications including switches, ball plungers, safety relief valves, quick change tools and vice clamps.

Heavy Duty Die Springs The latest Heavy Duty Die Springs also feature in the new Lee Spring catalogue. A die spring is a type of heavy duty compression spring manufactured using round wire specifically designed to be used in ‘Dies’ or as heavy duty coil springs in any heavy stress, heavy load application such as clutches, brakes, farm machinery and aircraft mechanisms.

Lee Spring offers five different Heavy Duty Die Spring configurations, ranging from Medium, Medium Plus, Medium Heavy, Heavy to Extra Heavy load. These heavy duty springs can be found in brakes, clutches, aircraft mechanisms and farm machinery.

New Metric Bantam™ Mini Compression Springs New Metric Bantam™ Mini Compression Springs from Lee Spring are powerful springs designed to operate in small spaces and are used in various

applications, including in medical instruments and surgical tools, firearms, communication devices and hardware, as well as in the aerospace, automotive and marine sectors.

“Manufacturing springs using metric-wire helps us to offer more accurate spring measurement to customers working in metric units” explains Chris Petts. “It helps our customers to achieve precision and accuracy as well as speed up the specification process.”

The new metric range of Bantam™ compression springs starts at .010mm, which is just a little thicker than a human hair, with outside diameters from .81 to 1.65 mm and free lengths from 1 mm to 14 mm. The existing imperial (inches) range of Bantam springs ranges from a .004” to .0055” wire diameter, with outside diameters of.025 to .057”.

Made using Elgiloy™, a high temperature resistant, non-magnetic nickel alloy that is 10% stronger than Type 316 Stainless Steel, these miniature stock springs offer a combination of strength and corrosion resistance.

To supplement its extensive range of stock springs, Lee Spring offers a custom spring design service, ‘Custom Springs Direct’, which is a streamlined service for the provision of bespoke designed and manufactured springs.

Spirax Sarco shows ‘commitment to quality’ in £1.5m boiler house project

pirax Sarco has completed the handover of a £1.5 million turnkey boiler house project as part of an innovative £4.3 million waste- to-energy plant at Davyhulme in Manchester. Owned by United Utilities, the plant uses sewage to supply gas for a combined heat and power plant. It recycles the waste heat from electricity generation to produce steam in the boiler house that can then be used in the process. This plant will eventually generate enough energy to offset the electrical power needs of Davyhulme, one of Europe’s largest wastewater treatment facilities. The main design and build contractor for the overall Davyhulme project is Black & Veatch, and the company wanted to hand over the steam systems to a reliable supplier. The

scope of the contract included three boilers, two boiler feedtanks and a comprehensive water treatment system. It also included all the associated controls to enable the boilerhouse to run unmanned and maximise energy efficiency, such as automatic TDS and bottom blowdown systems.

o augment its existing plug-in current transformers featuring CAGE CLAMP® technology, WAGO has developed two new versions with picoMAX® connectors. Well-suited for connection to digital measuring systems, their dimensions and shape are ideal for use in a 3 phase line circuit breaker with phase spacing of 17.5mm. With a 1% measuring accuracy, the 855 Series units transform primary

rated currents of 35A or 64A into electrically isolated

secondary currents of 1A. The new split-core current transformers are suitable for upgrading existing systems in which the current path may not be disrupted. They can be opened on one or both sides - ideal for installation in tight spaces. They transform primary rated currents of up to 1,000A into electrically isolated secondary currents of 1A. Their high level of accuracy of up to 0.5% yields extremely precise current measurement. All transformers are supplied with colour-coded cables. Two UV resistant cable ties for reliable and easy mounting are also included.

sensitivities in the red and green wavelength range. The APDs feature a flat gain curve where the internal amplification rises slowly with the applied reverse bias voltage. Therefore, the Series 8r allows for easy and

accurate adjustments of high gain factors. The new photodiodes are ideal for applications which demand fast rise times and low capacitance. The Series 8r provides APD chips with active areas of different sizes. The devices are available in leadless ceramic-carrier SMD packages or hermetically sealed TO housings. The very flat SMD packages can be equipped with different band-pass filters on request. Further, First Sensor offers custom avalanche photodiodes which can be adapted to specific customer requirements with respect to sensitivity, gain, speed or capacitance.
