FAA AML-STC EQUIPS FLYTAB IPAD EFB/MX TERMINALS IN PART 25 COCKPITS

Avionics & Systems Integration Group (ASIG, LLC), Shadin Avionics, and SpatiOS, a consortium leading the implementation of integrated iPad solutions, jointly announced today the issuance of FAA AML- STC#ST11156SC for the fl yTab iPad EFB in Part 25 aircraft. The STC authorizes the installation of a Dual fl yTab Class 2 iPad EFB in any Part 25 aircraft, according to an approved model list (AML) which is maintained by the Avionics & Systems Integration Group. Confi gurations under the AML contain the CL-600 Series including all CRJ Models, DHC-8 Series, Q-400 and B767-200/300 Series aircraft; however, several other type/model series are currently in development. The low-cost and lightweight installations feature the

fl yTab 3-stage mounting system, which provides continuous device protection and crew portability, the Aircraft Interface Module (AIM) which authenticates, encrypts and secures while concentrating and distributing onboard avionics domain system and sensor data to up to two system-attached iPad EFBs, and two Power Conditioning Modules (PCM) which provide the iPad LIBs (Lithium- ion Batteries) with charging power, or aircraft power primary, service while continuously monitoring for secondary hazards in both the airframe and iPad internal power distribution systems. Certifi cation pedigree of the fl yTab system is unmatched having been issued FAA-TSO C-115c and featuring a software design assurance level of RTCA/DO-178B Level C it includes Apple’s “Made for iPad” accessory approvals.

The installation covers all necessary

evidentiary requirements in support of air carrier “paperless” (e.g. A061 OpSpec) application and is software independent allowing airlines and fl eet operators to use any off -the-shelf charting application, including but not limited to, Jeppesen, Forefl ight and Lufthansa Systems Lido to name a few. Operators with requirements for enhanced applications involving

access to broader avionics domain information in their EFB can easily and rapidly develop and deploy low-cost custom applications using the fl yTab SDK for distribution either via the Apple App store or via Enterprise deployment, which is a wholly documented and supported and is a simple add-in for use within Apple’s standard Xcode developer tool. The high-defi nition touchscreen of the Apple iPad

off ers access to a variety of data and applications including graphical fl ight planning and following, terrain mapping, geo-referenced charting, traffi c display and satellite or aircraft weather radar imagery. The fl yTab SDK also allows third-party developers to utilize SDK embedded “widgets” to add enhanced functionality to their applications including a QAR (quick access recording), maintenance diagnostic and fl ight simulation/replay tools, a fuel range and endurance computer, and soon an advanced cost performance indexing tool.
