UNDER THE RADAR

 A PROVEN WINNER St. John’s College (D.C.) High has not been a power in

Washington Catholic Athletic Conference girls’ lacrosse, but the Cadets have steadily improved. With a new coach and proven winner at the helm, 2014 could be their breakthrough year. Aubrey Andre takes over the program after leading Georgetown Visitation (D.C.) to a 35-4 record the last two seasons. She accepted a full-time teaching position at St. John’s, which prompted the move. St. John’s went 9-8 in 2012 and

7-10-1 last season. Andre could help take the team up another notch. Among the teams the Cadets will face this year are defending WCAC champion Good Counsel and runner-up Bishop Ireton. For comparison, Andre took over a Visitation team that went

14-4 in 2011 and went 18-2 in her fi rst season and 17-2 last year. Three of those losses were to conference rival St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.).

New St. John’s (D.C.) coach Aubrey Andre knows how to win in the WCAC.

GAMES TO WATCH

 BOYS: ST. IGNATIUS PREP (CALIF.) AT ST. STEPHEN’S & ST. AGNES (VA.) April 22

St. Ignatius starts a two-game East Coast swing against defending IAC champion St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes. The Wildcats boast two of the top seniors in the nation in attackman Joe Lang and goalie Cyrus Scott. How will the best of the West compete in the East?
