Judy Avey-Arroyo holds an orphaned sloth.
On Her Own Buttercup’s mother was gone. T ere was no one to teach this little sloth how to survive. T e Arroyo family would have
to become Buttercup’s family. First, they needed to know about sloths.
T e family went to the library. T ey checked out all the books about sloths. T ere weren’t many. T e family called the zoo and an
animal rescue center for help. No one knew much about raising sloths.
A baby sloth reaches up. It wants to be held.
