Getting Settled It doesn’t take long for your partner to give you a tour of the lab. On the far end are two rows of bunk beds. T e beds are stacked three beds high, so all six of you have a place to sleep. Next is the tiny kitchen, with a table and benches. An observation window is built into this wall. T e science lab is through the next doorway.
All your equipment for the research you’ll be doing is stored here. T e entrance to Aquarius is at this end.
Your team gathers around the small table
in the kitchen. It’s nearly dinnertime. Tonight’s meal is freeze-dried chicken and rice. You add hot water and wait for the food to soſt en. While you’re waiting, you look through
the window. On the other side of the window, a Spanish hogfish zips by, gobbling up tiny shrimps as it goes. Aſt er dinner, you head to your bunk. T ere
is only time to jot down a few notes of your adventure so far. T en it’s lights out.
Aquarius is the only underwater lab of its kind. Divers can stay up to two weeks in the lab.
