FRANK WOLF » An adventurer and filmmaker, Frank’s jour- neys have taken him all over the world. His epic three-week route over the rarely traveled Labrador Plateau included almost as much portaging as paddling (p.62). “The best moment was when we reached the Plateau with our canoe—but it was also bittersweet, the most challenging part of the expedition was over,” says Frank.

JODI BIGELOW » Paddlesports coach Jodi Bigelow has com- peted in several kayaking world championships as well as the Yukon River Quest. His paddling-related travels have led him to beautiful and extreme waters like the Grand Canyon and Maui. Read about his international journey by voyageur canoe (p.25). “I was brought on as a hired gun because of my experi- ence,” Jodi jokes.

BRIAN SHIELDS » After 33 years in aviation, Brian put away his flight bag and has been following his heart on Canada’s rivers ever since. His unique background made him the perfect writer for a story of an unlikely bush pilot who takes paddlers into the wilds of Northern Ontario (p.32). “Bush flying is un- forgiving and demands constant good judgment. It seems idyllic but it’s pitiless,” Brian says.

KATHLEEN WILKER » Kathleen loves hitting the trail with her family, whether for biking, hiking or canoeing adventures. Mother of two, she heads kid-friendly bike parades and an after school bike club in Ottawa, Ontario. “My first long distance ride was a 60-mile ride along the shore of Lake Ontario—it got me hooked on biking. Bike shorts, too,” she says. Kathleen does all the legwork for you in our guide to the Ultimate Family Bik- ing Weekend (p.50).

KAYDI PYETTE » Canoeroots’ new managing editor, Kaydi, spent hours carefully toting a plate of crackers and hummus around eastern Algonquin Park on a sunny November day for the photo in “Lighten Up” (p.38). In this issue, she solves the mystery of the Bobs Special’s namesake (p.30), then helps you play detective on the trail with tips for identifying animal tracks (p.48).
