GMC-PCMA Performs Service In Sync

Each year, PCMA chapters dedicate the first week of November to a Service In Sync proj- ect that encourages their members to come together and give back to their community. On Nov. 3–13, the Greater Midwest Chapter’s (GMC) Community Services Committee, co- chaired by MGM Resorts’ Kris Marinelli and Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ Leslie Sargent, helped organize the collection of three van loads of items for Connections for Abused Women and Their Children (CAWC). This year was doubly special, because

Service In Sync fell during the same week as GMC’s largest fundraiser, the GMC-PCMA Bowl-a-Thon, which generally raises $20,000 to $30,000 for a selected charity, and this year served as a place to collect more items for CAWC. Off the Street Club, a Chicago boys’ and girls’ club, and GMC-PCMA’s official char- ity for 2012–2013, received Bowl-a-Thon pro- ceeds last month. “Our members already have the giving spirit because of Bowl-a-Thon,” Sargent said, “and we try to keep that momen- tum going with Service In Sync!”

Foundation Provides Trade- Show Research

Last month, the PCMA Education Foundation — in conjunction with the ASAE Foundation, the Exhibition Industry Foundation, Freeman, and Gaylord Entertainment — released a new report that explores the future of trade shows from five theoretical perspectives. The findings were presented at Convening Leaders 2013.

Scenarios for the Future: Convention Exhibits and Trade Shows of 2016 is the product of a year of face-to-face discussions, online conversations, and extensive research from within the exhibits industry. The report highlights how trade-show and convention-exhibit organizers can maintain relevancy, deliver more leads, and ensure future financial success.

“The future of trade shows can’t be predicted by conventional survey methodology,” said Liz Erikson, executive director of meetings and incentives North America with Fairmont-Rafles-Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts and 2012 chair of the PCMA Education Foundation.

“We gathered some of the best minds in the meetings and events industry in small- and large-group discussions to visualize where our industry is headed and what we need to do to prepare.”
