Pre-assembled fasteners enhance customer service

Severstal-Metiz has begun delivery of pre-assembled bolts, washer and nut kits, as well as fasteners, to ensure exact conformity of component quantities and to optimise pre-installation operations.

T

he new service became possible thanks to the installation of new automaton for fastener assembly. The equipment is universal accepting bolts from across the M20 to M27 diameter range and achieving an average output of 28

completed sets a minute. “The fastener sector is a key direction for our company and

we pay particular attention to its development,” commented Oleg Veter, general director of Severstal-Metiz. “As well as developing new progressive aspects in the production of fastener products, and achieveing continuous quality improvement, we also develop

the service functions to offer interesting solutions for our customers. Pre-assembly of fasteners is a good example of this service for those clients for whom efficiency and convenience are important.” The new service of pre-assembled fasteners is currently

demanded mainly by bridge building organisations. In the longer term the company plans to collate and supply as a unit not only high-strength bridge fasteners with thermal diffusion zinc coatings but also hot dip galvanised fasteners for electricity supply structures.

Palace Bridge fasteners match historic character

According to the Rosmetiz Association, Severstal-Metiz has won an order to supply high strength fasteners for the reconstruction of the Palace Bridge in St. Petersburg, Russia.

T

he company was unique amongst Russian fastener producers in offering solutions for the project and consequently signed a contract to supply around 20 tonnes of fasteners. Against a short timescale for delivery Severstal-Metiz has to produce standard M18 high-strength bolts and nuts, as well as M18 and M22 high-strength bolts with modified head geometry. As well as the design of the fasteners having to meet stringent strength criteria it also has to conform to requirements to preserve the architectural unity and historical character of the Palace Bridge.
