This pineapple top is an example of rotational symmetry.


Looking at Plants Only a few kinds of animals have rotational symmetry. T ey all live in the water. You can find many other examples in the


plant world, though. Look at the photograph of these pineapple leaves. Now rotate the picture a little. You’re looking at the image from a diff erent angle now. Yet the swirl of leaves still looks the same.

Flower Power T is symmetry is easy to see inside an orange, too. Slice it in half and you’ll see. All the juicy sections stick out from the center of the fruit. You can see it in flowers, too. It’s easiest


to spot in round blooms, like dandelions or daisies. Like the sea star’s arms, the petals fan out in a circle from the centers. No matter how you turn these flowers, they look the same.
