DLA Piper recently announced that Michael Torosian has joined the Corporate and Finance practice as a partner in the Silicon Valley office.


Previously a senior counsel in the Corporate Department at Latham & Watkins LLP, Torosian advises public and private companies, investment banks, and venture capital and private equity firms in the emerging growth, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets areas. Working closely with companies and investors in the high technology, cleantech and life sciences industries, Torosian has extensive experience in all stages of venture capital financings, public securities offerings, and mergers and acquisitions.


“Michael is a leading corporate lawyer who has developed a successful and growing practice, and his addition is a major contribution to the strategic expansion of our emerging growth, IPO and M&A capabilities,” said Jay Rains, global co-chair of DLA Piper’s Corporate and Finance practice. “His varied experience and industry contacts and relationships will be invaluable as we continue to grow and diversify the practice in the Bay Area and nationally.”


Torosian’s practice also focuses on advising C-suite executives, boards of directors, and general counsel on corporate governance matters, federal and state securities law compliance, and public company compliance and disclosure matters, among other company management issues.

Torosian is the latest addition to DLA Piper’s rapidly growing Corporate and Finance practice, which in 2012 has also added: Rich Scudellari, Armando Castro and Matt Oshinsky in Silicon Valley; Masood Sohaili in Los Angeles; John Altorelli, Alexander Fraser, Patrick Costello, Gerald Francese, Richard Reilly, Edward Johnsen and Daniel Eisner in New York; Neal Aizenstein, Andrew Weil and Wesley Nissen in Chicago; and Kathleen Smith Ruhland in Minneapolis.


cLIFFoRd cHancE ELEctS a nEW coUnSEL


In PRaGUE The Prague office of Clifford Chance is pleased to announce the promotion of senior lawyer Tomáš Doležil to the position of Counsel with effect from 1 May 2012. The status of Counsel has been developed within the firm to recognise excellent contributions by senior lawyers and their potential for partnership.


Tomáš graduated from the Law Faculty of Masaryk University, Brno, and undertook post-graduate studies at the European Institute in Saarbrücken, Germany, acquiring an LL.M. Eur (Master of European Law) Degree. Tomáš has also completed a PhD Programme at the University of Economics in Prague and was admitted to the Czech Bar Association in 2002. He joined Clifford Chance in 2006 and in 2009 spent six months seconded to the private equity group of the firm's Frankfurt office.


In terms of his legal practice Tomáš focuses on mergers & acquisitions, private equity, corporate/commercial law and the TMT sector, and has considerable experience in advising on cross-border and domestic transactions, including some of the most significant deals that have taken place over the last decade.


Alex Cook, co-head of the Prague office's corporate practice, commented: "This is a tremendous accomplishment and a well deserved appointment. We assign a great deal of importance to the status of Counsel and there are some stiff criteria to meet to achieve Counsel status. My congratulations go to Tomáš for this achievement".


International law firm DAC Beachcroft LLP has appointed Enrique Gich as the new managing partner of its Madrid office.


Enrique took over from Ignacio Figuerol, who has led the office for the last four years, with effect from 1 May. Enrique has been a partner with the firm for seven years and his background is in high-value international disputes, involving mainly insurance, energy and construction matters.


He has been closely involved in the development of the firm's Mexico office and will continue to maintain close links with its various Latin American offices in his new role.
