The eclipse is coming!
A glowing ring of fi re, or an annular solar eclipse, lights up the sky on May 20. The celestial spectacle is the result of the moon covering most of the sun, and it’s the fi rst such eclipse since 1994. You can see the best views (from behind solar fi lter glasses, for safety) at certain spots in the West, including such national parks as Lassen Volcanic and Great Basin. These and other parks host ranger-led programs. For a map of the best sites and viewing tips, call (202) 208-6843 or visit
