A Different Generation Women have a much different role in American society than they did a generation ago. The White House commissioned the “Women in America: Indicators of Social and Economic Well-Being” report to help the nation respond to the challenges women face. The findings show that women are increasingly well educated and are catching up to men in terms of income. But overall, women still have a way to go. BY JONATHAN GRONER
