Health and safety nod for Climate Energy

Climate Energy Solutions has re- ceived accreditation as a SAFE contractor after undergoing a vet- ting process examining its health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.

The accreditation means that Climate Energy Solutions has now been added to a database ac- cessible to registered companies looking for a potential contractor with sound health and safety poli- cies. SAFE contractor accredita- tion helps to enhance companies’ ability to attract new contracts.

Managing director Phil McGrory said he thinks this will show the company’s commitment to safety, adding: “This will enable us to tender and work for larger com- panies that request this accredita- tion as standard. Along with our Contractors Health & Safety ac- creditation and our ongoing com- mitment to health and safety, we hope to be an example to other companies.”

“Despite the current financial cli- mate Southampton continues to attract interest for developments in the city and the council is work- ing hard to attract many more jobs for residents.

“I am confident MSIL will cre- ate a scheme that will place Southampton as one of the most dynamic waterfront cities in Europe, but also to create a leg- acy for the city of which everyone can be truly proud.”

Ernie Battey, executive chairman of MSIL, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as pre- ferred developer for this major waterfront scheme. Being south coast-based and familiar with Southampton, I know how im-

“But labs across the country are going to be struggling to make ends meet following the budget cuts announced last year.”

Sally Hunt, general secretary at the University and College Union, agreed, saying: “Given the huge overall cut to the science capital budget, £100m to be shared be- tween four research centres is to be welcomed, but is hardly cause for celebration.”
