THE rise and rise of the serviced apartment industry continues, and the sector's ASAP organisation hosted its first ever national conference in October. Over 140 delegates from 44 member companies – who represent over 7,500 properties in the UK alone – attended the Association of Serviced Apartment Providers inaugural conference, where Mark Harris of the Travel Intelligence Network addressed delegates. ’’The serviced apartment sector in the UK is showing extraordinary growth this year and some 57 per cent of corporate buyers in the UK are now using serviced apartments to cut costs,’’ said Harris. ’’Companies are more aware of


the benefits of apartments, especially for stays of five days or more, whilst the apartment environment is the perfect fit for the mobile, self-sufficient corporate traveller. Serviced apartments are

Go Native revealed there are now over 6,600 apartment units in London, representing six per cent of accommodation in the capital, while average occupancy has averaged 88 per cent for 2010 compared to hotels at 79 per cent – figures that are forecasted to rise to


90 and 81 per cent respectively in 2011. Nightly rates for 2010 as of August average £113 across London for serviced apartments, compared to £154 for hotels. Another ASAP member, SACO,


has recently opened 13 new units in London's Fleet Street (pictured), helping to grow its London portfolio by 38 per cent since February, with other 2010 additions in Waterloo and St George Wharf.


• THE Guoman Charing Cross is set to transform its Buckingham Wing into the Executive Wing, a project earmarked for completion in February next year. The 85-bedroom-wing will have its own check-in and concierge service and each room will include large work stations, wifi internet, Hypnos beds and rain-head showers. Guests will also have access to the Guoman Club Lounge.


• THE Rezidor Hotel Group will open a Radisson Blu hotel in the downtown area of Dubai early next year, comprised of 198 contemporary rooms and 22 suites. Meeting facilities will include six conference rooms, two boardrooms and a business centre, plus two restaurants, a pub, two bars, a pool, spa and business lounge.
