Design Center Showroom Admittance Policy

IMS home furnishings showrooms sell predominantly to qualified design trade professionals (interior designers, architects, contractors/builders, retail furniture/ accessory buyers and contract dealers). Individual showroom admission policies vary. The kitchen/bath and remodeling product showrooms are also open to the general public. Signs outside the showroom indicate their specific admittance policy.

Design students, consumers and other individuals are welcome to browse in many of the showrooms. To purchase, trade professionals must be prepared to present credentials including a business license, resale tax certificate and/or business card.

One-Day Badges: These are available for clients of qualified trade professionals so they may visit designated showrooms not otherwise open to the public. Please contact the Information/Concierge Services desk at (612) 338-6250 before sending a client, so a badge can be prepared in advance.

General Public: Visitors not sent by a qualified trade professional are welcome to visit any Design Center showroom with signs indicating “Browsers Welcome;” however, to purchase most home furnishings, they must go through a qualified trade professional. The IMS kitchen/bath showrooms and other businesses displaying “Public May Purchase” signs welcome, and will work directly with, the general public as well as the trade.

Retail Showrooms: IMS also houses several showrooms and retail stores on the first floor that sell to the general public. Signs outside these businesses indicate “Public May Purchase.” For a complete listing of these retail operations, stop by the Information/Concierge Services desk in the lobby or call (612) 338-6250.

The Design Connection: The Design Connection is a referral program linking the public with professional designers. The program provides three services: 1. The Design Connection links designers with consumers who have an immediate or pending design project.

2. The Design Connection allows the public to purchase products at IMS through an interior designer.

3. The Design Connection is a marketing tool for designers, allowing them to meet prospective clients.

If you would like to apply for the Design Connection program, please call (612) 338-6250.
