tus of the community, which had now grown to 25,500 residents. Among the accomplishments of Vista
Beautiful was a contest in early 1967 to choose the city’s official bird and flower. After heated balloting fromall segments of the community, including VistaHigh School students, the ceanothus, a wild lilac native to the area, was chosen as our flower. The Anna hummingbird edged out the king-necked pheasant “by a pin- feather.” Those who have carried on the beautifi-
cation of Vista havemade great strides in countless artistic and creative ways. The enthusiastic, historic Vista Beautiful Committee set a proud standard for all the projects that were to come over ensu- ing years.
