Make maths fun (KS3-4)
MangaHigh has developed the first curriculum-compliant maths games led by an experienced team of mathematicians, educationalists and games designers. They have launched five free original games to make maths challenging, yet playable.

Write on! (All KS)
Everybody Writes is a web resource run by Booktrust and the National Literacy Trust. It offers classroom teachers innovative ideas and practical resources to get primary and secondary students excited about writing.

Rules of War (KS4)
Thousands of UK secondary students will soon be studying areas of international humanitarian law in the run up to the new citizenship studies GCSE next year. The British Red Cross has launched Rules of War a free resource to help teachers deliver the subject. It looks at conflicts around the world and issues closer to home, such as youth violence in local communities.

The national drugs helpline FRANK provides support and guidance to parents and teachers at parents’ evenings in secondary schools across north east England.

A new charitable venture is dedicated to encouraging pupils in all schools, including special schools, to get involved in making radio programmes.

English Heritage’s Discovery Visits programme won six awards this year for combining fun with learning. Bring history to life with hands-on historical interpretation. Book at least 14 days in advance.

The Iain Grant Charitable Trust provides professional development for teachers who want to travel abroad to study teaching methods. Applicants must teach children under 13, have at least seven years’ experience and plan to travel for up to six weeks.

The DCSF has issued new guidance for teachers, building on the Safe to Learn guidance. Cyberbullying: supporting school staff also offers teachers advice about keeping themselves safe.

The NUT is developing a model policy on cyberbullying and supporting school staff. We would like to hear of locally negotiated, or local authority, policies. We are particularly interested in how schools deal with cyberbullying.

The Eye Know Eye Care schools programme brings eye health into the curriculum. Eighty per cent of learning is through the eyes and children and teachers should be aware of the need for regular eye tests and eye care.
