THE LEGACY ISSUE
Welcome to The Legacy Issue of Leading Estates of the World. We celebrate the majesty of life and family, home and community, and more importantly what they offer and provide, as well as leave behind. We celebrate the life of Robert Hamilton Kelsey, our revered and visionary founder, his zest, his leadership, and most appropriately, his perpetual positive outlook. For 82 years Bob Kelsey lived his life to the fullest. In the late 1960s, in a moment of brilliant foresight, he realized that beautiful homes for sale only appeared as classified ads. As a result, he and his wife, Pamela, pursued the opportunity to create the first ever premier quality publication showcasing extraordinary residential estates. From their pioneer publication release, Holiday Homes International, to what quickly became Estates, and finally renamed and uncompromisingly branded Leading Estates of the World, the standard of excellence in real estate publishing was firmly established—and never relinquished.
But publishing requires content, and the second leg came with developed relationships with real estate brokers marketing preeminent estates. Therefore, the family we celebrate is The Estates Club, an esteemed group of professionals, the original real estate brokers and brokerages strategically selected by Bob Kelsey. Over the years and then decades, the opportunity to gather in different estate markets—from Aspen to Palm Beach to Gstaad to Montecito to Santa Fe—and network and share professional practices proven successful in individual brokers’ markets, became a hallmark of The Estates Club as it continued to grow and expand through identification and invitation to others who have led by example in their communities.
For the 104th issue of Leading Estates of the World, we continue to celebrate the home in
each spectacular showcase, as each estate is prominently featured on the following pages. We are extremely honored and proud to introduce an amazing array of properties, from our Hamptons cover estate on Long Island, to the Guinness family’s Irish 5,000-acre country hunting compound, to Bali’s supremely sensual water palace, Tirta Gangga, to Maui’s incomparable and world-renowned Makena, to American icon Philip Johnson’s architectural masterpiece in Dallas. Leading Estates of the World’s archive continues to grow, and is easily accessed online or on our LE app.

Community brings together the most important aspects of living. To make our community whole, we respectfully recognize the individual brokers and brokerages previously described, as well as those who dominate the population of our community—owners and readers.
Life, family, home, and community are the elements that surround the table we serve. And we are honored to do so. In similar yet different terms, we applaud and emphasize the fact that there is a real estate professional representing their estate listing and its owner within a brokerage company in a town or a city. These stakeholders demonstrate history and pride, commitment and intelligence, as well as passion and desire to serve each other in the achievement of the common goal—to improve and uplift, to succeed and prosper. Establishing and maintaining excellence began with Bob Kelsey; it is now our charge to continue his legacy, as he set this standard in presenting world-class real estate, a standard that will quietly continue to surpass itself.
