Participants in a GAEA Access to Capital & Bonding panel discussion.
Sadat and business partner Al Shepherd started the company in 2003. The Alliance Academy course that Sadat participated in, about one year after his company’s inception, was essential for laying the groundwork for his business.
“I learned a lot about the construction industry through the Construction Business Management Institute. The classes were particularly geared toward expanding busi- ness capacity and preparing businesses for work at the airport,” says Sadat. He still has relationships with the instructors and many of his former classmates, and has access to GAEA’s network of economic, corporate and strategic partnerships. He estimates that half of his busi- ness is a direct result of his connection to and knowledge gained from GAEA, and acknowledges that his business network has grown due to his connection to GAEA.
WOMAN-OWNED BUSINESS GROWS TO KEEP GOING
Latasha Crenshaw, President of AC Sweepers and Mainte- nance Inc., didn’t have a construction background either when she launched her business in 2012. But she was well-versed in corporate sales and previously learned the ins and outs of parking lot sweeping while working for her family’s business in Chicago.
AC Sweepers and Maintenance, a certified woman-owned business based in Kennesaw, Georgia, offers parking lot sweeping, facility services, pressure washing, porter ser- vices and a broad range of maintenance services. Latasha says GAEA has provided invaluable information that has helped her secure contracts in the construction and
transportation industries, as well as assist with build- ing her company’s infrastructure and cultivating busi- ness connections.
GAEA has provided Latasha with more than just business coaching and network connections. “The staff at GAEA is comprised of experienced professionals who are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about businesses in this industry. Just when you feel like giving up, they will give you the solution you need to keep going,” explains Latasha. As small business owners, Sadat and Latasha both agree that GAEA has done a lot to help diversify the construction landscape. “Directly and indirectly, GAEA has helped the community by preparing businesses to acquire, maintain and manage jobs,” Latasha says.
Latasha Crenshaw, President of AC Sweepers and Maintenance, is one of many woman business owners who have taken advantage of the services offered by GAEA.
