EDITOR’S LETTE R

DSD 52

Four is a stable and reliable number. Tables have four legs. There are four noble truths in Buddhism. There are four Gospels in the Christian New Testament. There are four ele- ments: earth, water, fire, wind. And, this is the fourth issue of Dallas Style & Design. It seems like just yesterday that Quentin and I started this venture. In just a year we have quickly become the stable and reliable resource for design, ex- clusively focused on Dallas, with incredible feature articles about architects, builders and interior designers, as well as another issue’s worth of profiles about the fantastic showrooms and galleries in the region that offer high-quality furniture, décor and art.

In this issue, writer Maryann Hammers takes us inside de- signer Cheryl Van Duyne’s own home, while Nancy Baldwin visits the home of designer Barbara Elliot, and we discover that interior design may be difficult, but never as difficult as when you are your own client. We also take a trip up north to McKinney’s historic district to look inside a remodel and restoration by Integrity Custom, which took an old tract home and turned it into a beautiful, modern residence that retains its vintage charm and feel. Nearby, in Frisco, we stop at the amazing IBB Design Fine Furnishings showroom and explore all they have to offer, and it’s a lot. Also in Frisco is Reza’s Rug N More, a showroom

filled with the finest hand-knot- ted and hand-tufted Oriental rugs. Just a straight shot down the Tollway, is Heritage Antiques and Interiors, with its recently opened showroom.

Let us be the first to welcome

Brooke Weidenbaker of LMB Art Glass to the Design District as she opens the doors to her gallery on Irving Boulevard. Weidenbaker is moving the store to Dallas from Kansas, where her mother ran the business for 20 years. We are excited to see new talent in the Design District and we wish her the greatest of success. From far north Dallas to the epicenter of the Design District, and all points in between, there are fantastic furniture show- rooms and design resources

that offer something for every taste. To help you make a selection for your next purchase, check out our expanded Design Trends Department, in which more than 30 local home décor experts reveal their favorite furniture and accessories for the next quarter.

Between the two covers and four edges of this issue you will find some of the best design that Dallas offers. Happy reading.

Cheers,

Douglas King Editor
