ADVOCATING LOCALLY Stormwater discharge issues are receiving increased attention from federal and state regulators. AFS and its local members were recently successful in reversing the eff ort of the State of Missouri to impose unnecessary, more stringent requirements that were not appropriate for stormwater discharges from metalcasting operations. In April 2014, AFS submitted comments on the revised general permit and provided model comments for foundries in Missouri to submit to the state on the proposed revisions to the general permit. These comments addressed concerns that the benchmark values used in the general permit were too low and would unnecessarily trigger substantial compliance cost associated with the facility’s best management practices.
