ince its beginnings as

a small bib overall company in 1922, the Williamson-Dickie Manufactur- ing Company (Dickies®) has grown into the world’s largest manufacturer of work garments. During World War II, the company produced millions of uniforms for the nation’s armed forces, and continues to provide high-quality, purpose-built apparel to both the pub- lic and private sectors. After many years of outfi tting police and public safety personnel, Dickies decided to design a line of clothing tough enough for tactical operations.

According to Susan Kohout, Director of Marketing, Dickies is chosen by law enforce- ment departments and individual offi cers due to its superior durability and comfort. With this in mind, the company began to conduct extensive research to design a col- lection specifi c to the tactical market. Based on the feedback they received, it was obvi- ous that the majority of today’s law enforce- ment offi cers had concerns regarding the apparel options in the marketplace. “The of- ferings for law enforcement often lost their color and did not provide the true durability or the full range of motion offi cers need on the job,” Kohout explained.

As a part of the research and collection design, Dickies enlisted 82 offi cers from around the U.S. and from various types of departments to wear test the product and provide feedback in order to ensure the product had precise functionality, comfort and durability for offi cers on the job. Ko- hout noted, “The Tactical Collection is cre- ated with performance fabrics for added comfort and includes articulating elbows and knees for greater range of motion, as well as convenient features such as pockets that can accommodate mag pouches, im- portant documents, and pens.”

ality in mind, the pant offers strategically designed pockets that allow for quick and easy access to gear.

These include a covert handcuff pocket at center waist, an L-shaped front pocket to clip a knife, and a roomy cargo pocket with built-in mag pouch. There are also inset back pockets and a pocket on the front right leg for a cell phone. Reinforced knees with vents for knee pads, double-re- inforced inside pocket bags, and a double seat provide enhanced durability.

Since challenging conditions are inher- ent in tactical operations, one would ex- pect the apparel to be stiff and constricting. However, DuPont’s Sorona® fabrication is extremely soft and quick-drying, and the expandable waistband provides a perfect fi t. Sorona® fabrics adapt to the needs of the end user, delivering superior perfor- mance and a comfort stretch that allows clothing to retain its shape. The Tactical Pant is offered in a broad range of sizes and is available in four colors: Black, Desert
