Stony Brook coach Joe Spallina puts junior Kylie Ohlmiller in a playful headlock as the two revel in the Seawolves' 10-9 season- opening victory Feb. 4 at Towson. Ohlmiller scored the game- winning goal with four seconds remaining — a result that also was notable for the possession clock violation that preceded it. The Tigers had failed to get a shot off in the required 90 seconds, per a new NCAA rule to prevent stalling, leaving Stony Brook with enough time to win the game. “There’s so much value to what the rules committee did and the sport will forever be grateful for it because the game’s just better,” Spallina said. “It’s real lacrosse. Teams are forced to play.”
