Skyliners save their
best for last BY KYLEIGH GAFF
Te Skyliners (SC of New York) per- formed a little magic and saved their best for last to successfully defend their title. Skating to a theme of wizardry, the Skyliners earned Level 4s for their line and circle en route to a total score of 65.31. “It was the best they ever skated and the best they could have done,” coach Nikki Wy- lan said. “Tey had a really strong season, but nothing was really perfect until today. Tey saved their best for when it really counted and we are so proud of them.” “To be in Rockford with so many differ-
ent teams that are just as amazing as you are, I think everyone did well,” Skyliners Tracy Wang said. “A lot of people don’t realize how much work and effort it is to (prepare for this event).
We only have two practices a week, but we put everything we can into every practice and skating out there was showing everyone what we were doing the past few months.” Te Capital Ice Chips (Bismarck FSC)
earned the silver medal with a performance set to the theme “Live your Life to the Fullest,” dedicated to Taylor Goven, a former team member who passed away in 2015. Te skate was highlighted by a Level 4 line and a Level 4 circle, garnering 59.25 points. “We’ve had a lot of things happen these
last few weeks, so for them to bounce back and skate like that, we are happy,” coach Rebecca Gallion said. “We haven’t skated with the same team all season. For them to go out there with that kind of confidence, I am
really proud.” Te Star Mates (Hayden Recreation
Centre FSC) had one fall in their program set to music from Beauty and the Beast and came just short of silver medal with a score of 59.12. Tey achieved a Level 4 line and Level 4 circle. “We had a few small errors here and
there but I was really proud of the team for going out there and attacking the program,” Star Mates coach Erika Hoffman said. “It’s really satisfying to have a skate that
you’re proud of when you come off the ice at the end of the year,” skater Cayla Weiss said. “We got better and better at each competition, so it’s good to know that we ended strong.” Team del Sol (San Diego FSC) earned 55.88 points and won the pewter medal.
