AFS NEWS Registration Now Open for CastExpo’16 and Metalcasting Congress

CastExpo’16 online registration is now open for exhibitors and attendees. CastExpo’16, to be held April 16-19 at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Min- neapolis, Minnesota, will be the largest metalcasting industry event of 2016, offering attendees access to the whole metalcasting supply chain: suppliers, metalcasters and casting buyers. Over 450 exhibitors will be showcasing the latest

equipment, technology and resources. For 2016, CastExpo has launched new additions such as The HUB @ Expo, which is a dedicated lounge for networking, professional development and outreach. Here, atteendees can discuss the latest EHS regula- tions with experts, schedule a group meet-up, or examine the latest R&D at the professional and educational level. The HUB also will include a small theater for exhibitor-led presentations. Also new for 2016 are keynote speakers. Troughout

the four days of the show, high-profile speakers will educate and entertain attendees on various professional and personal topics. CastExpo’16 is also offering expanded educational

programming. Every day of the show will feature professional development opportunities, including

the latest technical research, practical roundtable discus- sions, and panels from industry experts, plus dynamic and interactive courses based on the AFS Institute’s most popular offerings. Additional networking events, lunches and dinners are

also scheduled. On Sunday, April 17, the Annual Ban- quet will be held, during which AFS’s highest honor, the Gold Medal, will be presented to Frank C. Headington and Douglas M. Trinowski. Portable Stroke Monitor App for Performance Analysis

General

Kinematics, Crystal Lake, Illinois, has introduced a portable stroke moni- tor app. Te app remotely analyzes the performance of vibratory equipment by measur- ing stroke for three different directions, total stroke and RPM. It then logs the results in a display on a handheld device. An added bonus for those who have used stroke monitor- ing equipment before is that you no longer need to position the monitor to

any specific motion direction. Visit www.generalkinematics.com for more information.

Crucible Furnaces for Energy Efficiency METALCASTING SUPPLIES

StrikoWestofen, Gummersbach, Germany, has introduced new crucible furnaces with porous burner technology that are capable of a 20% increase in energy efficiency compared with conventional crucible furnaces. Tese high-energy savings are a result of the opti- mal pre-mixing of gas and air and the result- ing near-stoichiometric combustion. Tey are suitable for melting and holding aluminum and magnesium. Flameless burners heat the silicon carbide and steel crucible uniformly without causing any hot spots. Also, the low flow speed ensures the hot gases remain at the crucible for longer, thus allowing

optimal utilization of energy. Visit www.strikowestofen.com/en/products/ for more information.

Direct Angle Plates for Machinists and Fabricators

Te C.A. Lawton Co., Green Bay, Wisconsin, now offers direct angle plates for machining. Sold in pairs, the plates are produced in cast iron, which efficiently dampens machin-

ing harmonics. Visit www.calawton.com for more information.
