If you disagree with Medicare’s


analysis of your performance or be- lieve your final determination is incorrect, submit what is called an “informal review request” by Nov. 9, 2015. This is the only appeals process Medicare has for the PQRS and VBM programs. Once a request has been submitted, Medicare will review your data and respond to you through email within 90 days of your submission.

TMA KNOWS the difference a good educator makes in the life of a physi- cian. The association is asking for your help in recognizing physicians who excel in teaching. Consider applying for TMA’s award program or nominat- ing a leader or colleague. The program is scaled across four


levels to provide recognition through- out your career, starting with the Bronze level and culminating with the Platinum level. The Platinum Award winner is selected from the Gold level recipients and receives a $5,000 cash award. The TMA Foundation gener- ously provides award monies.

Austin dermatologist Colby Evans, MD, has been named chair of the Board of Directors for the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF), the world’s largest nonprofit serving those with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Dr. Evans will serve as NPF board chair for the 2015–17 term. He will lead the volunteer members of the board to help direct the organization’s long-term strategies, set goals to execute those strategies, and provide financial oversight.


Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed Antonio Falcon, MD, to the Governor’s University Research Initiative Advisory Board. The board will assist the ofice with the review and evaluation of applications for grant proposal funding. The advisory board will make recommendations to the ofice for approval or disapproval of those applications.


Janice A. Knebl, DO, received the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners’ highest honor, the Santucci Award, for extensive contributions and advancement of the board’s mission to protect the public. Dr. Knebl is the endowed chair of geriatrics at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and principal investigator for the Reynolds Geriatric Education and Training in Texas Program.


The Texas Health and Human Services Commission named these physicians to its new Women’s Health Advisory Committee: Janet Realini, MD, president of Healthy Futures of Texas; Raymond Moss Hampton, MD, American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists District XI chair; Jennifer Almonte-Gonzalez, MD, founding partner of The Women’s Center for Excellence in McAllen; and John Thoppil, MD, an Austin obstetrician-gynecologist.


B. David Vanderpool, MD, of Dallas, received the Dale and Rita Brown Outlive Your Life Award. The award recognizes servant leaders who have created a lasting effect on the lives of others through civic and community contributions, meeting spiritual or physical needs, helping redirect the course of people’s lives, and inspiring others to make a difference. Dr. Vanderpool is a past TMA president.
