Synod visit, welcome to new columnist In June, I had the pleasure of visiting the

Upstate New York Synod Assembly. While there, one of our videographers and I were able to stop in at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Buffalo where Gary Steeves is doing remarkable things with his congregation and community. We filmed a Sudanese service that afternoon at Resurrection where we witnessed Steeves and his Sudanese parishioner, Justin (last name withheld), leading worship in two languages. Through their inspirational partnership, I was reminded that prayer, no matter the language, brings people together. Our talented associate editor, Erin Strybis,

blesses our pages this month (page 14) with stories of Lutherans all over the world, from Cambodia to Costa Rica. It’s a feature that reminds us that the Lutheran faith brings joy to millions across the globe. I would also like to welcome William

Flippin Jr. as our guest columnist this month (page 5). He is pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Atlanta and is no stranger to media, having been featured on the History Channel and blogged for TheHuffington Post. Over the next several months, we’ll be inviting

people to be guest columnists for Living Lutheran in our quest to find a new, permanent tenant on that page. Your feedback is important to us as you read the new columns each month. Don’t be shy— tell us what you think at the email address below.

We would love to hear from you. Contact us at LivingLutheran@elca.org.
