NCGA Players of the Year Clayton Rises to the Top After Record Round

Sitting in fifth place in the year-long points race heading into the NCGA Valley Amateur, Trevor Clayton summoned a round for the ages that not only propelled him to victory, but also the NCGA Player of the Year title. Clayton shot an NCGA record 10-under 62 in the first

round of the NCGA Valley Amateur, and then added a 1-under 71 at the Reserve at Spanos Park to beat Jeff Hoff- man by four shots. Clayton’s 11-under 133 also tied the championship low, and gave him a 58-point lead over Jason Anthony heading into the final week of the season. For good measure, Clayton won the LasPo Open for

his third title of the season, finishing with 1,419 points. The Fresno City College player also won the Roseville City Championship at the end of April, reached the Round of 16 at the California State Amateur, as well as the Round of 32 at the NCGA Amateur Match Play Championship. Anthony’s year included a win at the Fresno City and Round of 16 trips to both the California State Amateur and NCGA Match Play to finish with 1,259 points. NCGA Match Play champion Matthew Seramin was leapfrogged by Clayton and Anthony in the final two weeks of the season, finishing third with 1,082 points.

Rolling Knoll Gathers Fourth Straight Senior Player of the Year Jim Knoll couldn’t play in the season-ending NCGA

Senior Valley Amateur—because he was busy competing in the U.S. Senior Amateur. But by then, Knoll had long wrapped up his record fourth

consecutive NCGA Senior Player of the Year title. Knoll finished with 2,878 points, which left him a cushion of more than 1,200 points over four-time NCGA Player of the Year Casey Boyns. Knoll owns the four highest point totals in NCGA Senior

POY history, including a 2013 season where he amassed a record 3,003 points. Knoll opened the 2014 points season with a win at the

California Senior Amateur, the first of his eight victories. Knoll also won his second NCGA Senior Amateur, as well as the senior editions of the Sacramento City, Merced County, California State Fair, Contra Costa County, Santa Cruz City and Marin County Four-Ball. Knoll won eight of the 18

events he entered—a 44% winning percentage. Boyns won the Alameda

Commuters Senior and Monterey City Senior, while also finishing third at the California Senior State Am and tied for second at the NCGA Senior Am. Mark Miller finished 96 points
