Student Profile

“My PhD research is diverse and of a multidisciplinary nature.”

My research involves fieldwork on the Irish research vessel, the Celtic Explorer, which is aunique and thoroughly enjoyable experience. I have participated in four research cruises for my PhD to date and they have all been inspiring experiences.

The Earth and Ocean Sciences discipline has an excellent learning environment, with approachable, experienced and helpful staff and students.

Annette Wilson PhD (Earth & Ocean Sciences)

Within the Ryan Institute, where I am based, there is an excellent intellectual community, that includes regular seminar sessions.

These are a great way for students to present their research and build their confidence for ultimately presenting at conferences. For research in marine science studies, NUI Galway is a great university. It is on the doorstep of Ireland’s largest resource—220 million acres of ocean. There are also plentyof opportunities to work with the state research facility based in Galway, the Marine Institute.”
