SUPERYACHT LIFESTYLE
“ I’ve been here since the beginning - it’s the BEST of both WORLDS”
19.30
Dinner is in the smart Marina restaurant, at the stern of the ship. The restaurant is busy, and has an impressive European- American menu. Starters of pork rilletes and smoked salmon tartare are followed by Alaskan king crab legs, whilst the fillet steak and truffle mac’and’cheese are equally decadent. The wine list almost overwhelms us, and we allow a saintly waiter to choose us a wine for each course. Food and drink is certainly an important part of the experience for those on board.
21.30 Saturday night is karaoke night in Regatta. The singing is
surprisingly good, and the lack of nerves among the singers suggests this evening is a regular and popular fixture. The line up tends to consist of the same six people, and every now and then someone new braves their ranks. We settle down with a drink and watch from the bar as merriment descends this little patch of Rimini, and goes on long into the night.
23.00 We break from the karaoke night to enjoy our pre-booked Bali
Bed. These set of six beds at the stern of the sports deck face out to sea, and we fall asleep under the stars as the lights of Rimini fade into the distance.
Day 3: 8.30 Breakfast is in Tides this morning as we approach Venice. Tides
is at the stern of the yacht on the penultimate deck, and offers both interior and exterior dining. We chat to a resident about his trips on board and he shows us photos he’s taken on his phone: “We go everywhere from Monaco to the North West Passage. We often have people come on board to teach us about an area before we arrive. We have had naturalists explain the wildlife of certain archipelagos, or historians teach us about the ancient ruins we’re going to visit.”
9.30 We visit Captain Dag Saevik on the bridge. “I’ve been here since
the beginning,” he says, “and it’s not like any other cruising lifestyle. You get the best of both worlds!” Soon after the pilot arrives from Venice and we let them get on with navigating the 196-metre ship towards Venice’s narrow canals.
12.30 We grab an early lunch in anticipation of our guided tour into
Venice at Fredy’s, a deli, where residents can buy everything from larder staples to parma ham and fine cheese.
13.30 We leave the ship and embark on our guided tour of St Mark’s
Square and the Doge’s Palace. A private launch takes a group to meet our guide. The next three hours are spent marvelling at the Venetian architecture and soaking in the atmosphere, and before long, we have said arrivederci to our guide and we are being transported back to the ship.
18.30 There’s time for a quick dinner and to finish packing before the
flight, so we order food and pick out something from the impressive menu. We check out and a private car drives us to the airport, away from the ship so many call home. SYW
