SUPERCOMPUTING

This course will describe what supercomputers are, what they are used for and how to exploit their full computational potential. We will describe how modern computer simulations are performed and give examples of the scientific breakthroughs made possible by modern computer technology. All technical aspects will be covered at a conceptual level and there is no requirement to be able to write computer programs. However, anyone with existing programming experience will also be able to understand how programming modern supercomputers differs from programming a desktop PC.

MANAGEMENT OF MASSIVE DATA

This course will introduce the concepts, tools, and techniques that enable the management and analysis of big data. Starting with an introduction to Linux, the course builds to explore R, Rstudio, Apache Haddoop and RHaddoop. Statistical concepts such as supervised and unsupervised learning and regression and classification problems will be explored through big data examples.

The Implementation Phase of PRACE receives funding from the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement RI-312763 and from the EU’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme (2014-2020) under grant agreement 653838. The PRACE aisbl is funded by the PRACE members.
