The German city of Munich is home to this year’s Product Innovation Europe congress
roduct Lifecycle Management soſtware hit the headlines in January with the announcement that Siemens has agreed to buy CD-Adapco for
nearly a billion dollars, intending to add it into Siemens’ PLM portfolio. Against this backdrop, therefore, it is
appropriate that the PI Congress – the only European conference devoted to PLM – will take place in Munich on 8 and 9 March. Tis year the event aims to explore the
process, people and technological challenges faced when building a profitable data-driven business strategy. Attendees will be in good company with the conference set in Munich this year, as manufacturers such as BMW, MAN and the PLM company Siemens are all based in the surrounding area. Te conference will focus on some of
the latest and greatest challenges facing manufacturing industries today – this is

reflected by keynotes which that range from ‘managing performance in Formula 1’ to ‘the fourth European industrial revolution’. Tere will be contributions from top motorsport companies, alongside top research organisations and some of the most innovative companies in European manufacturing. As the leading Formula 1 teams seek
to differentiate their products and find a competitive advantage, there is a continuous process of making improvements and enhancements, with companies in a constant search for world-class technologies that can be utilised in new ways, as well as innovate around systems and processes.

performance insights, CMS Motor Sport, will present a talk on gaining performance insights in Formula 1 racing. Tis presentation will highlight how the process of innovating does not need to be large or expensive; even a small innovation in relation to a long-established process can make all the difference. ‘Te 4th European industrial revolution’
will be the subject of a keynote presentation from Željko Pazin, executive director of the European Factories of the Future Research Associations (EFFRA) and manager at the European Engineering Industries Association Orgalime. His talk will focus on the development
of European countries, manufacturing capabilities, with the aim of establishing
Europe as a powerhouse of manufacturing in the coming years. In Europe, the impending revolution is known as Industry 4.0, with the German government alone acknowledging that it will give close to €500m towards developing the technology vital to support a smarter and globally competitive manufacturing economy. In addition to the keynote presentations,
the conference will provide a far-reaching technical programme covering PLM strategy and deployment, data flow and connectivity – as well as a final section dedicated to smarter systems for smarter products. Te conference will take place at the Dolce
Hotel, which is 15 minutes from Munich International Airport and 20 minutes from the city centre. l
