Sword & Trowel 2015: Issue 1

NEW LANDSLIDES AND SEPTEMBER CHURCH BOMBINGS

U

PDATES received from Pastor Samuel Rai indicate that emer-

gencies are still being responded to alongside the planned programme of short-term relief. In early August three days of min- istry for the comfort of believers were held about three hours’ drive north of Pokhara. On the way back it was discovered that there had been a large landslide with four villages washed away, with 35 dead and six missing. A team visited the area as soon as possible with relief for 30 families including rice, blankets, mattresses and tarpaulins. During August, emergency help

was given to hundreds of families from mountainside communities which have lost all their crops and stored food in landslides caused by the earthquake and monsoon rains, and are in need of shelter.

Solar panels provided

During September, relief activities have included pro- viding 566 families with solar panels, lights and food, and 350 families with clothes and food in Chitawan district where evangelistic meet- ings were also held on 28th
