The Analysis Forums

2018 has arrived!

Now is the time to make progress on some key initiatives for the new year

Laurie Beagle Managing director, Forums International lauriebeagle@forumsinternational.co.uk

I hope that you all had a good Christmas break and are back at work, ready for the new year. I may not have been born an optimist, but

those who know me, know that I have become one. But I am a realist. Also, I am a list-writer, and I would like to share what is on my list for 2018.

The list It is as follows: l Attack those items that were on last year’s list, but kept being put to the bottom of the pile. l Declutter my office, which will also clear my mind. A clear head leads to a better night’s sleep. l Make contact with those personal and business friends who I have not spoken to recently and see what is happening in their world. l Work-life balance is always a challenge, but this year I plan to make it a reality. l We pride ourselves on listening to our forum members. Their feedback and ideas are key to our future. We will be encouraging them to give us more feedback. l Ensure we continue to deliver measurable quality and value to our members at each of our events. That includes our mission that everybody takes away something new from each meeting. lYou either love or hate social media: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and so on have their place, but I resolve to use them sensitively and not as media bombs. lExpand the Forums International service portfolio. But, remember: it is the quality, not the quantity, that counts. l Maintain the current drive for new forum members and reward the introducers. l Finally, remember to say thank you more often to our members, partners, supporters, and hosts. They are very important to us.

going to start, this is definitely the ‘green light’ for companies to start formulating their future business plans. I have written, previously, that trading in

new geographies can be scary. It is definitely outside your traditional comfort zones, however, there is so much help and information that Credit teams, via their contacts, can bring into the plans. With credit insurers, brokers, banks, UK

Export Finance, and so on, all available and potentially able to offer some valuable insight, there is a massive amount of information on offer. At this stage, I would like to add that

we are also planning sessions across the forums on trading in different countries, for example in Africa, the Middle East, China, the USA, and the Americas. The first being a session on Africa at the International/Export Credit Forum in London on 15 February. We will also be adding helpful information

for exporters, and those trading on an international basis, to our web site.
