LG Signature OLED TV W awarded Best of Innovation title for video display

K

orean manufacturer LG Electronics celebrated taking home the CES 2017 Best of Innovation Award for video displays

with its ‘wallpaper’ 77in OLED TV W. The top-of-the-line LG Signature OLED TV ‘W’ features Dolby Vision

and Dolby Atmos sound, but the immediately eye-catching feature is the OLED panel, which measures only 2.57mm thick in the 65in model. The OLED panel can be mounted directly on the wall with only magnetic

brackets, eliminating any gap between the TV and the wall, designed to ‘invite the illusion of gazing out a window, not of watching TV’, LG says. The W7 series and all LG 2017 OLED TVs feature Active HDR for

displaying HDR content designed to render brighter scenes and greater shadow detail, the company adds. Active HDR allows LG TVs to process the picture frame by frame, inserting dynamic data where needed. This technology allows the TV to offer the best picture even if the original HDR content contains static or no metadata at all, LG says. All of LG’s 2017 OLED TVs support the full palette of HDR formats, including Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) and are ready to support Advanced HDR by Technicolor technology. The new HDR Effect feature processes standard definition content frame-by-frame to improve brightness in specific areas, enhance contrast ratios and render more precise images. LG Home Entertainment Company president and chief executive

Brian Kwon commented: “With Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos integrated tightly into our newest OLED products, viewers will be able to recapture the magic of the cinema and experience their favourite movies with their original clarity, depth and imagination intact. The stunning new TVs on display at CES demonstrate our commitment to innovation and leadership in OLED and the premium TV market globally.”

Audio-Technica unveils latest offering at CES

A

udio brand Audio-Technica used CES 2017 to unveil its latest range, from a

pair of new flagship wireless headphones to new products that tap into the vinyl trend. The brand’s new flagship high performance

over-the-ear wireless headphones, the Bluetooth aptX HD-enabled ATH-DSR9BT, took home a CES Innovation 2017 award from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). Those headphones, along with the ATH-DSR7BT, are the first to employ Audio- Technica’s proprietary Pure Digital Drive technology, which keeps the original audio signal completely digital from source to driver for what the company calls an ‘unprecedented sound performance’. Audio-Technica also introduced a more affordable on-ear headphone

duo, the ATH-AR3BT and ATH-AR3iS, with the wired ATH-AR3iS boasting a sub-£100 price tag. For customers looking for in-ear options, the brand says it has ‘mined

its rich heritage and expertise in professional on-stage and studio monitoring sound, working alongside world renowned producers and musicians’, to fashion the new LS ‘Live Sound’ series of high performance in-ear headphones. Audio-Technica's ATH-LS70iS and ATH- LS50iS are designed to allow music fans to experience the ‘excitement and dynamics of a live concert’ while on the go, the brand says. Taking advantage of the recently-resuscitated vinyl market, the brand has also unveiled its AT-LP3 turntable. Audio-Technica describes the new model as ‘the perfect upgrade from an entry-level turntable’ – the sub £200, fully-automatic belt-driven model combines an ‘enhanced audio performance’ with ease-of-use, boasting an interior-friendly design based on the brand’s AT-LP5. Appealing to the vinyl enthusiasts that are upgrading their components, Audio-Technica has also introduced a new series of VM cartridges. Manufacturing handcrafted phono cartridges since 1962, Audio-Technica says the new series builds on the company's heritage and expertise. The nine model VM lineup combines three different cartridge bodies and seven different stylus shapes, which the brand says gives a consumer a clear upgrade path to expand their cartridge collection and perfect their analogue experience.

Carl Kammerling International

Carl Kammerling International has launched a range of next generation cable rods. The C.K MightyRod PRO cable rods feature SplinterSHIELD, a durable, 100% splinter-proof coating that fully encases the inner fibreglass rod to prevent harmful splintering. Available in three different degrees of rigidity - a 7mm rigid rod for overhead use, a 6mm flexible rod and a 4mm super-flexible rod - there is also a mini-coiled spring steel Flexi Lead that aids navigation through obstacles. A splinter-proof MightyRod PRO GLO rod has also been developed. The glow-in-the-dark, phosphorescent rod is designed for low-light working conditions. Completing the range is the super-flexible 1m SPIRA-FLEX rod, perfect for accessing tight

corners, bends or obstacles. Manufactured from an advanced Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) material with a helical profile, the SPIRA-FLEX rod reduces friction as it rides across surfaces, making the act of pulling and pushing a run of rods far easier, particularly in conduits or trunking where there is cabling already in situ.
